Q. Why can Galv-A-Dock moor large wide body cruisers, up to 43' in length, with a maximum of 27,000 lbs. While all other conventional docks cannot adequately moor larger boats safely to the dock in rough water, weather conditions(excessive high winds and larger waves from the wind)?
A. The strength of Galv-A-Dock, is a result of our research and development team of over 40 years, actively involved in the dock industry. The one piece welded steel brackets, double strength light-weight structural steel pipe is stronger than standard schedule 40 pipe, that eliminates bending. With it's vertical pipe driven into the ground, makes up the unequalled strength of Galv-A-Dock.
Q. What is the maximum water depth Galv-A-Dock be installed in?
A. Up to 14' of water. However, in soft ground you must include the soft ground depth along with the water depth.
Q. Why is Galv-A-Dock easy to install or remove?
A. The Galv-A-Dock framework dock system uses an above-water method of installation and removal, so you stay high and dry. A modified 55 gallon drum works as a flotation device, that supports 440 lbs., more than adequate for the dead weight of the frame, along with the dock installers.
Q. Can Galv-A-Dock be installed in rivers?
A. Galv-A-Dock stationary dock is usually installed with the dock surface 18" above the water. Therefore, Galv-A-Dock as well as all other stationary docks are limited to lakes & rivers that do not fluctuate more than 18" rise in elevation, during a season. However the Galv-A-Dock system, with a modified flotation device for greater height, does allow the dock to be set at a higher elevation, at the time the dock is installed. Allows for Galv-A-Dock system, being the only stationary dock, with the ability to work with greater lake or river elevation rise.
Q. How easily can Galv-A-Dock be raised to accommodate rising water elevation?
A. Each vertical pipe sleeve of the dock bracket, has one 1/2" square head set screw, that needs to be loosened. Using the leveling jack service tool or a come-along, a section can be raised and retightened in less than 10 minutes.
Q. What makes Galv-A-Dock the most rigid portable dock system available?
A. The bracket, designed along with the double strength galvanized pipe, is the key to what differentiates Galv-A-Dock steel-framework dock, from other docks that use standard schedule 40 pipe. The strength of the bracket is what keeps the vertical double strength pipe at right angles to the horizontal framework double strength pipe. This in turn gives the steel-framework dock an unequalled rigidity, with nearly any kind of bottom condition, with water depths up to 14'.
Q. Why is Galv-A-Dock 100% maintenance free?
A. The steel components are finished with hot-dipped galvanizing. The metal is compatible, being all steel, with a hot dipped galvanized finish. Galv-A-Dock engineering, utilizes a zinc-plated steel setscrew in the zinc-plated steel bracket, then goes one step further and coats the setscrew with an anti-seize lubricant product. Compounded from microscopic metallic particles, (graphite) used to reduce corrosion and eliminate seizing of the fastener, that may lead to the eventual breakage.
Q. Does Galv-A-Dock offer a cover for boat protection?
A. Yes! As an option you can purchase a covered boathouse with the original dock order, or can be added at a later date. The boathouse is attached by the boathouse standards encompassing the existing vertical pipes, that extend above the dock. The Galv-A-Dock boathouse size is dependent on the specifications of your boat. The vinyl cover is offered in various colors (some states, such as Wisconsin, have restrictions pertaining to the color of covers, along with limited sidewalls of the boathouse that may impede the neighbors view of the lake).
Q. Does the off season storage of Galv-A-Dock require an excessive amount of on shore storage space?
A. No! The 3 main components of each section (decking, frameworks and the vertical pipe) will stack directly on top of each other. The Galv-A-Dock accessories are the fourth stack on shore needed, that happen to be the first dock components to be removed and the last components to be reinstalled the following year, they do not stack well with the 3 other piles of dock components. Realtors have commented, on how neat and contained the Galv-A-Dock products is, when stored over the winter on shore.
Q. What are the limitations for the overall dock length of Galv-A-Dock?
A. There are no limitations in length, only in water depths that exceed 14'. Today, with a few shallow water applications, Galv-A-Dock has docks up to 192' in length and Galv-A-Dock wetland walkways up to 408' in length.
Q. Can we change the configuration or add on in future years?
A. Yes! This is a modular component type dock system with flexibility limited only, by the imagination of the sales person, dock installer and / or the homeowner.
Q. What accessories are available?
A. A covered boathouse, bench, ladder, straight dock bumpers, corner bumpers, 16' tall telescoping flag pole, deep water side sway stabilizer, molded plastic corner dock locker box, and extra wide L segment, such as the 5' wide platform, 7' wide sundeck, or 10' wide super sundeck (please be aware that some states, such as Wisconsin, have restrictions pertaining to the overall width of your dock).
Q. What is the life expectancy of Galv-A-Dock?
A. The first Galv-A-Dock's were sold in 1970 and are still in use today. All of the steel components with a galvanized finish, being compatible through-out, extends the life expectancy of the steel structure framework under the designed use, that should exceed 40 years. With the plastic decking projected to exceed 20 years.
Q. What information is needed to receive a quote?
A. The more information we have, the better we can serve you. If the quote is to include a open slip or a covered boathouse structure, we need to know the boat length, width and height specifications, along with the length of the dock main walkway. Along with the details of the area, such as depth of water at every 8' intervals, to the desired length, and what type of ground conditions, whether soft, sandy or rocky lake bottom.
Q. How long has Galv-A-Dock been manufactured and sold?
A. The prototype was manufactured, installed and tested for 2 years, before our first year of offering the Galv-A-Dock product to the public in 1970.
Galv-A-Dock's unique design has been proven for over 40 years. It's easy to install and remove, with an above water method of installation. Galv-A-Dock is the strongest dock, is 100% maintenance free, with a 10 year warranty and expected life of over 40 years.
